This two day course, which provides both practical and theoretical perspectives on performance measurement and management in the private sector, introduces delegates to the latest thinking and research in this critical field, as well as tools and approaches to maximize efficiency, effectiveness and legitimacy.

Course rationale

The course employs a range of teaching formats and draws upon the latest research in this field. Delegates will be encouraged to challenge conventional thinking on performance management and engage in debate to ensure that their own experiences and perspectives are shared. The course is built upon a solid theoretical foundation to provide delegates with the necessary appreciation of the underlying assumptions associated with, and the impact of, various forms of performance management.

Delegates will be introduced to various performance measurement techniques and encouraged to view performance from a 'whole system' perspective. The sessions are designed around short interactive presentations which act as focal points for key themes. Case studies will also be used to bring the subject to life; these will drive structured discussions and exercises designed to foster a firm understanding of the implications of performance measurement and management - 'getting it right', as well as the unintended consequences of some traditional approaches.
