This intensive 3 day course is designed for those individuals operating within roles which require them to consider operational risk issues or who are tasked with the review of security breaches or operational compromises.

Course rationale

The growth of corruption and insider threats along with increased use of the internet and social media by staff all contribute to the potential for covert operations to be vulnerable to compromise and security breaches. The need to protect assets and operations is of paramount importance to ensure that significant investment and high value assets are protected and not compromised.

During this course, students will develop an understanding of operational security and the role of an operational security officer or OPsy. The course will define baseline security standards and outline the concepts of operational risk management models along with the skills associated with the management of compromise. Specific material will focus upon risks associated with the deployment of human assets and technical intelligence collection along with issues associated with the use of surveillance. There will be a specific focus upon risks associated with the cyber/digital environments. Alternate approaches towards the use of informants and agents will be explored. An operational case study will be used to test the knowledge of students at the end of the three days.
